New Portland Community Library Needs YOU!
As a community resource, the New Portland Community Library depends on your support. Our Director and Board of Trustees reach out several times a year with events such as book sales, bake sales, raffles, and our annual appeal for donations. These donations provide an important portion of the funding that the library needs to operate. They go toward developing our collection, offering programs for all ages, office supplies, equipment, postage, insurance, utilities, and upkeep of our building.
Just as you care for your own home, the library needs sprucing up as it ages. We, too, have maintenance costs such as keeping our building clean and repairing and upgrading plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
So that we can meet these and other needs, we ask that you consider donating a particular skill or service that you might have to the library.
Are you a plumber? An electrician? A groundskeeper? A person with multiple “handy” skills? A lawyer or accountant? Would you consider donating your service
or offering it at a reduced rate to help keep our costs down? This might be one-time assistance for a repair, a seasonal service, or whatever works for you.
If so, please get in touch with us to find out more. Reach out to the library director at 207-628-6561 or
Other Ways to Support Us
Become a Volunteer
We can always use helpful volunteers who can commit to a modest schedule of an hour or more a week. Help us shelve books, create kids crafts, or support a program. Whatever service you can offer we do appreciate!
Volunteer at our Book & Bake Sales
We need book movers, bakers, and volunteers during the book and bake-sale.
Join our Library Board
We are looking for diligent community members to help carry our library into the future! Board members meet once a month to discuss key policies, help implement new and existing strategies, and support the library director and staff. Reach out if you are interested in joining the Trustees!
New Portland Community Library is dedicated to being a hub of information and learning, and a provider of engaging and innovative programs and services for all ages. The library is a 501(c)(3). We do receive a much needed yearly contribution from the Town but many expenses are paid for by library funds, donations, and fundraising including: utilities, programs, staffing, book collections, software and equipment, and building maintenance. Please consider supporting the library through a monetary donation. Your support will directly help the library maintain its services for the community.
If you can not support us monetarily, but you would still like to help, please consider reaching out to Town Office staff, the Town Manager, Select Board, and budget committee members. Tell them about your experiences at the library and encourage their support of us. We believe our services are a crucial and valuable service for many members of our community. Please make your voice heard in support of our community library! Thank you for your support.
